Wrong Gpu Driver On Mac For Hashcat

Trying it on GPU’s will liekly hang/crash the system. CPU cracking will work fine but the speed will be really slow (I got 115 h/s on yours). When you run hashcat it lists the devices (CPU, GPU etc) that are present. If your CPU is device 1 for example, run hashcat with your desired options but add -D 1 and it’ll work fine. Installed hashcat on apple M1 mac (arm arch). Hashcat -I outputs no devices found/left. Device #1: Apple's OpenCL drivers (GPU) are known to be unreliable. Anyone knows what could be wrong or how I can resolve this? Hashcat runs normally in my ubuntu.

How do I update graphics drivers?

It is essential and important to have up-to-date drivers for your graphics cards when running Filmora Video Editor on your computer. In order to avoid the compatibility issues like crashing, freezing, lagging and slow performance, we suggest you to keep your graphics drivers up-to-date.

However,

before updating the drivers, you need to know what graphics card your computer is using now.

- For Windows Users

To reach it, you can use the Microsoft DirectX Diagnostic Tool to determine the vendor and model of your graphic card.

Below is the detailed steps:

  • In Windows, select 'Start ' and enter 'dxdiag ' into the search box on the taskbar. Select 'dxdiag ' from the results and open that tool.
  • On the 'Display ' tab, you can see the model name of your card.

After checking the graphics you're using, it's time to download and install the latest driver as follows:

Below are links for downloading drivers from the most common graphics card manufacturers.

1. Generic Driver:

How To Use Hashcat

- Nvidia: https://www.geforce.com/drivers

- AMD: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-driver-autodetect

2. Modified/Customized Driver:

Some PC manufacturer uses modified graphic cards, not generic ones, you may have to download driver from those manufacturers' own sites: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/OEMs.html

3. Intel OpenCL Runtime:

If that is even not possible for you to install modified driver from manufacturer, the last thing you can try is Intel OpenCL Runtime: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/opencl-drivers

For Mac Users

It is much easier for Mac users to get the latest driver: just keep you macOS updated. If there is a graphics driver update, it will be included in the macOS update. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201541

A new version of hashcat has been released. hashcat is a OpenCL-based password cracker and can use any hardware device that comes with an OpenCL runtime (CPU, GPU, APU, DSP, FPGA, etc.). hashcat supports more than 200 highly-optimized hashing algorithms.

hashcat’s source code can be found HERE.

The complete changelog (from version 4.2.1 to 5.0.0) can be found on HERE on hashcat forums.

hashcat has a built-in benchmarking utility. Open a terminal in hashcat folder and type:

Nvidia Hashcat Driver

I tested this benchmark on a GeForce GTX 1080 + GT 1030 (GeForce 416.16) and on a Radeon RX Vega 56 (Adrenalin 18.10.2) on Windows 10 64-bit. I have a RyZen 7 1700 CPU but no OpenCL CPU test, it looks like AMD no longer provides OpenCL runtimes for their CPUs…
